Bwah ha ha obviously Mt. Rainier doesn't cut the grade. The Mowich face is just 55 degrees substained fall lines for 4000 feet over masive exposure, definitely not extreme compared to all those 14ers you guys have.

Jim is an inspiration. He is the person all young patrollers look to and everyone listens to. I am proud to say that I have learned how to be a ski patroller from Jim Harlan!! We could not do what we do without him.

I love the idea of a another bike race, but Rob Quinn, president of Spectrum Marketing?? A company of 1 run by a guy who lives in a trailer who has been fired or failed in his last 3 business ventures. That part I find skeptical.

Is this really a race or is this just a recreation ride. I find it highly doubtful they will be closing 285 down for amateur racers.

I used to see him climbing in Garden of the Gods. One evening I talked to him for quite a while. He seemed to love to talk about that property behind Pikes Peak. He told me all about it when I first met him. He established a lot of climbing routes in the Pikes Peak region. May he rest in peace.

Jamel Herring lost in the finals, but they gave it to him anyway. I guess he doesn't have much time left to make the Olympic team, if that what his aspirations are, considering he's already 26yrs old. They stole it from that poor 17yr old who CLEARLY won...what a shame

Up until a few years ago, Steve was an active member of the local search and rescue. So yes, at least one of the two rescued others at personal risk to themselves. But thank you Robert Chase for handling the over-use of the root 'burly'. It certainly speaks to your understanding of the situation and compassion for loss. Please never come to Jackson Hole.

Next, Mark. I've skied the backcountry countless times. I know literally hundreds of backcountry skiers who themselves have skied 100s of times in the bc. They are all alive. I know this is difficult for you to understand given your elaborate and well-thought post. Please, never come to Jackson Hole.

I was skiing in the park today and my friend commented on the SAR helicopter flying by us. Steve was a soul skier and a solid athlete. Chris works at the Village and I saw him daily. These are sad times for their families! We are all statistics waiting to happen. Not the time to harsh on people who ski bc. It could be you on C470 or in the parking lot of king super's unfortunate things do happen. A sad day here in Jackson, we'll make some powder turns for them on dawn patrol.

Actually Robert, you are confused. Mr. Blevins has used the word "hero" quite correctly. I believe in his opinion, these men fit definitions 1c, 1d, 2b, and 4 from Merriam-Webster quite well (and 1a if you interpret it rather loosely). Also, as this is a blog post rather than a formal article, his use of the vernacular (characteristic of a period, place, or group) with regard to the word "burly" is arguably also appropriate.
Hero:
1 a : a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability
b : an illustrious warriorc : a man admired for his achievements and noble qualitiesd : one who shows great courage2
a : the principal male character in a literary or dramatic workb : the central figure in an event, period, or movement3

Not to disparage the dead or their accomplishments in any way, but Mr. Blevins seems to be confused about what it means to be a hero -- did Romeo and Onufer rescue others at personal risk to themselves? Blevins is also a bit confused by (and overly enamoured of) the terms "burliest" and "burly", which however they are understood by snowboarders don't mean quite what he seems to think:

burly (burly)

Pronunciation: /ˈbəːli/
adjective (burlier, burliest)
(of a person) large and strong; heavily built

Perhaps you should throw in a few "awesomes".
